The Zookeepers' Main Squeeze

1. Best quote of the entire weekend came from Chris...naturally. "What's our cover story? If we are going to look at houses we need a cover story. (Thoughtful look on his face.) I've got it! I am a zookeeper and you are the zookeepers' main squeeze." Oh yeah, we went to a couple open houses. My favorite is the one pictured above.

2. Hello beautiful! My life will now be all organized, or as Chris would say "you better be $75 worth of organized now." Erin Condren planners are worth it!

3. Literally the BEST movie I've been to in a long time, The Butler. My friend, Whitney, made me go see it Sunday afternoon and I'm so glad she did; however, she told me that I "don't have a soul" because I didn't bawl during the entire movie like she did. **Disclaimer...I do have a soul.**

4. Chris and I finally picked out our bedding. It was a long process on Saturday night, but we finally agreed on the bedding listed above for our master bedroom. Seriously, the HARDEST part about getting married is trying to decorate in a gender neutral manner.

What did you do this weekend? Have you seen The Butler? Thoughts?

Worked My Little Hiney Off

I don't know about you, but I worked my little hiney off this weekend. Friday and Saturday I worked for about 9-10 hours each day for our Tent Sale. It was crazy ridiculous and I was pretty much the most hated person in the entire store. Why? Because I was in charge of the dressing rooms and had to implement a 5 minute time limit on each dressing room. Needless to say, people were not happy.

Saturday after a 10 hour shift, Chris and I sanded and scraped the varnish off two dressers (with help from my mom) and painted both. Check out how awesome one of them turned out. Chris and I will be using these in our new place! Pictures to come next month when we move in. :)

To treat myself for a weekend of hard work, I may or may not have ordered myself a new Erin Condren planner/notebook. (hint: I did) It's the coral one on the right!

What did you do this weekend? What goodies did you treat yourself to?

Bedroom Madness

Alright, so I'd just like to start this post by apologizing to all of you that have commented this week. I have been a horrible blogger friend and have not been able to respond to all of you like I'd like to. This week, and next, contain lots of busy-ness and packing/moving. Married Master Moodboard

Hey Toby's Tails readers! I'm Veronica and I blog over at Passion, Pink and Pearls where I blog about just that...my passion for the Lord, relationships, and interior design; my favorite color, pink; and pearls, my favorite accessory and the tidbits of wisdom I pick up in life, pearls of wisdom.
I've only recently got to know Jaime and so far I'm just loving her and her blog...plus she just got engaged! Which is awesome because married life is simply the best! Did you see her wedding dress options yesterday? Gorgeous lady!!

Today, Jaime has given me such a great honor in having the opportunity to give her a re-design of her master bedroom! Jaime's master bedroom is already one of my favorites boards I've done. If you're interested in seeing a couple other's I've done you can check out Karla's master bedroom from last week or Becca's kitchen from the week before.
And if you want a room of your own done, then fill out this form!
I'm doing concept boards for FREE for a limited time only! So hop on it now!
Okay onto Jaime's bedroom:
THIS week, I've got a sophisticated yet eclectic and more gender neutral bedroom for the fabulous Jaime over at Toby's Tails. Jaime is looking to update her bedroom, trade in the girly for the gender neutral so her man will feel more at home...which is even more important now because SHE JUST GOT ENGAGED!  How exciting, right?! He did a super sweet proposal and she got a beautiful ring!

What is your design style or vision?
I would love to see an iron bed in my bedroom. Possible white/neutral bedding with accent colors in the decor... I have an eclectic taste (not everything has to match)...

What are you overall goals for this space?
I would just love to make my room more neutral for my boyfriend and we both LOVE the iron beds. Functional and simple pretty much defines us.

Next up we have some images Jaime sent me links to that she just loved. --->
And one piece of furniture she wants to keep in the design:

I pretty much adore her furniture piece she already has so there's no reason to get rid of that beauty!
Surfing around Jaime's blog, I came upon a post she did on her living and fell in love with one of the photographs she took --->
Yellow is uplifting, bright and cheery while navy is luxurious, deep and charming...the two together create a masterpiece for any room, and a romantic getaway for a bedroom.
Jaime said she wanted a cool look with neutrals yet pops of color...I think theses pops of color will be the best to accent her room and bring a touch of femininity and masculinity into the room.
Concept Board:
The idea for Jaime's room was sophisticated, eclectic, charming and luxurious.
A charming bed frame with deep, rich yellow and navy in the accents with luxurious bed spreads and soft plushy blankets.
Jaime mentioned she could paint in her rented place but she would have re-paint when she did move so I opted to not paint. The SW color sin this case serve more as a color concept for the overall atmosphere of the room. The neutrals are in the basics and large piece of furniture while the colors are brought in through the accessories like the lamp and throw.
I also tried to blend femininity and masculinity in the bedroom so her soon to be husband will love it as much as she does.
What do y'all think?
What would you change?
**If you like Jaime's moodboard, go here and "like" it!**

Currently Loving...Patios!

I saw this picture on Pinterest the other day and, although I don't necessarily like the animal print, it made me SUPER excited for spring and patio decorating!

Taking the color scheme from above and putting a little of my own personal style into it, I made my ideal patio mood board below.

I'm loving the bright green and orange with the natural neutral colors. Wicker furniture is practically my weakness when it comes to patio sets. Do these chairs not look absolutely comfortable?! Yeah...Just so you know...Target has all of their patio furniture 20% off right now. Kill. Me.
What's inspiring you for spring? Any specific color scheme you're currently loving?

So...I'm Basically A Professional Designer Now

So, my friend, Brenna, approached me and asked if I would make her a mood board for ideas/inspiration for her bedroom. I was thrilled, so of course I said yes.

I had her send me a couple pictures of what she currently has in her bedroom and for her to explain what kinds of styles she likes. The above pictures are what she currently has and she is wanting to keep her bedding, so the color scheme was going to need to center around the yellow and neutrals. In addition, she said that she doesn't want it to look too matchy, but more eclectic.

After several hours I had come up with the mood board below. She once mentioned that she really liked the look for the iron head and footboard. I went matchy on the nightstands and lamps because it gives it some balance. The chest of drawers (assuming the top is an espresso/black color) gives a somewhat eclectic feel and the little yellow chair is just adorable. The fleur de lis represents Louisville so I had to include that.

What do you think? Is the yellow chair too much? Have you ever used olioboard.com to come up with a mood board for you or a friend to actually use when redecorating?

Living Space eBook Giveaway

Recently, I've had the opportunity to read an organizational and home decor eBook, Living Space, by Kathryn Weber. I enjoyed it so much that I asked her to share a brief biography about herself and then a little taste of what her book has to offer. Did I mention a giveaway? Oh yeah, if you enjoy her advice, enter the giveaway below for a chance to win a free copy of her eBook.

BIO
It started with the recession of 1990 when I was a newlywed. Growing up with a handyman father (why have concrete poured when my daughter can shovel sand and gravel and we can mix it ourselves?) taught me a lot about how to tackle building and construction. Plus, I was always a nest builder. Combine that with some simple carpentry skills, I felt like I had what it took to flip a house. Within eight months, I had a renovated house and my combined writing and house decorating and construction experience had morphed into a career field.
Today I write about home DIY (decorate-it or do-it yourself) and feng shui – something I’d learned about while living on a desert island in the mid-80’s. What I’ve found is that home is more important than ever. There’s not much that can beat a bed with clean sheets and a good hot meal when the vicissitudes of life whip us around like a dingy on the ocean. Our homes are our anchors and spending time on them pays us back in calm contentment when we return home each day. Home is dear to us and ours. The four walls of our house are more than lumber and gypsum, and the sum total or our material possessions; they’re the exterior walls of our hearts.

Organize Your Pantry and Fridge this Spring
I once worked for one of the founders of a large Texas fried chicken chain who became a multimillionaire philanthropist after the chain was sold to a larger national Cajun-style fried chicken chain.  He told me one of the company profitability secrets was to keep inventory low and only store what was needed.  By reducing the amount of stored food items, a lot of waste was eliminated – and waste meant money lost. Good organization in the kitchen saves time and frustration, and in today’s economy, organization is another way to reduce wasted food, and wasted money from re-buying what you already have on hand.
 The two black holes
There are two areas that become our kitchen’s black holes:  the refrigerator and the pantry. Stuff seems to go in there but doesn’t always come out. Did you know a typical refrigerator has double, triples (or more) of items such as salad dressing bottles crowded in it – sometimes holding as many as ten bottles?
I wondered how my own fridge was on duplicates and I found some repeats. Turns out, I’m a mustard freak. My refrigerator had six bottles of mustard.  There were two yellows, one grainy, one brown, one Dijon, and one wasabi.  OK, so I’ve definitely jumped off the mustard ledge.  It was enlightening to take a closer inventory of my refrigerator that, until then, had seemed fairly organized.
And then there was the pantry…..
But it doesn’t have to be like this. Some simple strategies can help reduce the redundancy and increase efficiency and organization.
 Alphabetizing anyone?
I’ve heard that there are some pantries that are alphabetized, but that seems like overkill.  Instead, corralling like items together is the best way to organize a pantry.  Items like baking, snacks, cereals, canned goods, and storage items should be placed together.  I like to put large storage products, such as paper towels and napkins, large juice bottles or soft drinks on the lower shelves.
To corral all the little bags of chips and snack items that go into school lunches or for snacking, try using baskets or a low-sided tub on a low shelf.  My favorite shape for storage containers is square and my favorite color is clear.  Opting for square, clear containers to corral bags of beans, rice, pasta, chips and other foods will keep the pantry organized with all the items easy to see. (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49871676/)
The same is true in the refrigerator.  Everyone has small packages of items in the freezer, and a small, clear basket is an easy way to keep all those little items together and not falling down to the bottom of the freezer baskets or falling out of the shelves and onto the floor when you open the door. (http://www.organizeit.com/iris-plastic-mesh-storage-baskets-clear.asp#)
Taming the fridge
Make a habit of placing items on the same shelf time after time, such as dairy or jams.  Purchase one nice set of clear plastic or glass food containers (http://www.rubbermaid.com/Category/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?Prod_ID=RP091260&CatName=FoodStorage) .  That way, when you have leftovers, you’ll be able to find them.  Don’t be tempted to reuse a margarine tub to put your leftovers in because you won’t see them, you won’t eat them, and they’ll grow into an unrecognizable life form that will cause you to wonder what has died in the refrigerator.
Don’t be afraid to put organizers in the refrigerator and freezer, either (http://pinterest.com/pin/139400550935456701/   or(http://pinterest.com/pin/260364422179747754/).  These can double as drawers and help you from overloading other areas, such as vegetables drawers that, when overcrowded with too many items, festers into a moldy, rotting fridge soup. Lastly, rather than throwing away old placemats, use them to line your vegetable and meat drawers. When they’re dirty, you can just toss them in the wash.
Keep a list
Another key to keeping your refrigerator and pantry organized?  A good grocery list. Make one up of all the items you use and buy regularly and make sure you keep it handy so you can jot down items when you run out.  This way, when you go to the grocery store, there’s no guessing about what you need.
Take the list in hand before going to the grocery store and look in your pantry and fridge to make sure you write down what you need, but perhaps most importantly, you’ll know what you have on hand already so you won’t waste money buying that eighth bottle of mustard or sixth bottle of salad dressing. To help you with what goes on the list, try painting the back of your pantry door with chalkboard paint to help you write, on the spot, exactly what you need, and that will help you fill out your list more accurately.

Babies, Babies, Babies...and Cats???

I figured I would give in and make a gender nuetral nursery since the majority of society is having babies right now...but seriously.

While waiting on that RING, I'm focusing on building my prestige, olympian cat collection. Toby's out, but Tillie's still in. The only olympic trait Toby has, is his gold-medal worthy timing of holding his poop in all day until I get in the shower to wash my hair. Thanks Toby. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is...

Why fill this glorious nursery with babies, babies, babies when you could be filling it with cats, cats, cats??? I mean, I'm just saying...
